Sorry Michael if we’ve hijacked your thread with a Technics/Rega debate, I’ll drop out.

no Tony, again, just a 'safe bet' I'll gladly take.

We didn't hijack it, after all he asked for opinions. Sorry, I'm not the poster child for Rega .............

Default Turntable Upgrade Time

The Technics is the best DJ turntable ever released and it is a workhorse and built like a tank. Please note that these are direct drive turntables.

For those unaware Technics had financial problems and became inactive for a while. Panasonic brought the company back a couple of years and the new products are designed towards HiFi and Audiophiles instead of pro audio.

This one is certainly interesting:

I imagine the Technics is more robust physically than just about any other turntable on the market due to it's heritage of being a DJ's scratching 'table. In terms of sound quality I don't see much opinions having been cast given the new design has been on the market for a short period of time. The audio review community has been well nigh unanimous about their high regard for the RP10. As I don't scratch for a living or a hobby I'll content myself with the RP10 being used as a high fidelity piece of equipment.

Ladder DAC would solve that problem in a heartbeat. You may not be a Delta-Sigma kind of a listener.

Not necessarily. I downgraded from a Yggdrasil Ladder DAC to an ECP Audio DAC with Wolfson 8741 Delta-Sigma chip and CineMag output transformers; it sounds slightly more analog to my ears, and so I sold the Yggy (it had the older analog 1 boards). The output stage still has a lot of influence on a DAC's sound, and those Wolfsons are also known to be slightly sweet sounding. And it helps that the proprietor of ECP audio is a veritable analog audio design genius. So not all digital ills can be blamed on Delta-Sigma.

My 2nd-string vinyl rig still crushes it, of course (SOTA Star, Ortofon Cadenza Bronze, Sonic Frontiers Phono 1) -- though at more than twice the cost of a new Yggy. The exorbitant expense of a great analog rig, and the rabbit hole issue, is all too real.
