Default Amp schematic for LED change

Ok so I ordered the gels for my MC300. Now the fun task of getting to them. I cannot find any schematics for removing the front glass. I've removed the screws on top and bottom near the glass and the end pieces. That whole bracket and glass piece moves, I'm just afraid to tug too hard. Anyone have experience on this?

Been too long to recall the details. Give Audio Classics a call and go over with them. Am sure they will be happy to help.

I did this over the winter on an MC7300 which is very similar to your amp. If I remember correctly, just remove the top and bottom screws and then whole assembly slides out. I may have loosened a few other screws on the side panels where the front assembly meets. It is a little tight for sure, but I was able to get it out. Be careful!! The glass will break if you put too much pressure on it.

Good luck with your upgrade. I did just the warm white LEDs and while they work great and keep the heat down, the color of the meters is off a little. I need to get new gels like you did at some point to even the color out with my other newer gear. Also, the lettering is not quite as green as my newer pieces, but it's also not *that* noticeable either. There is a seller with green LEDs that are designed to deal with exactly this.

yea i figured it out. the shell has to come off to allow access to 4 screws holding the faceplate inside. However, getting the gels off of the glass, forget it. I pulled the gels behind the amp meters and they are blue still. So it's just the ones on the glass. Removing those old gels from the glass is going to be impossible without scratching the glass. I'm going to overlay the new ones and see how that looks

So as I'm doing all of this I'm sitting here thinking, MC402, MC312? LOL. This amp obviously needs new gels and I will do that but, I'm still wanting a more modern amp.

Chris.......Find yourself a MC452, either new or clean pre-owned. You'll thank me later. .

Dan,

You always bring wisdom! As I was getting highly frustrated at "attaching" those gels today, I had a moment of clarity. The 452 is too much power but, better too much than too little! I will get another amp. The new gels look better but, after receiving an email from Mcintosh about the old gels, I've decided to remove the life support from the 300 and trade up.

lol. yea i was thinking I had a moment of clarity, as alcoholics do... It is befitting I am on here I suppose. Although, I glanced at the number of posts by Dan :0 . Is there some kind of award for achieving 60k, 75k, or 100k posts? lol

................ audioholics (not alcholics). Not sure which is less socially acceptable.
As for too much power (MC300 vs MC452), nothing succeeds like excess.

Wink Is There Anybody Out There?

Hey, Thebenz. Are you still around? I found this thread and was very interested in knowing if you had any additional thoughts on relamping your MC300...or anything else related to the MC300, in general. Did you ever look into a new amplifier? Being an MC300 owner, I'd love to read your thoughts on older Mac equipment. Hope all is well ~ Bill
