Do we have any Single Ended Triode fans here ? ....
Now that I've got tubes (and tone controls Alberto ) back in my life, things are pretty good and getting better. I been reading a lot about SET and wonder if anyone either has had SET's or is now currently using SET's? I guess under 10 watts/ch would be the sweet spot (pun intended). Any recommendatios for amps and SET friendly speakers? I know Zu Audio and Klipsch are in the running for speakers, anything else to too look at? Amps?
Thanks! |

I have a pair of Cary Audio 15w mono blocks. I think those are S.E.T. I have more pictures under the Cary Audio section here.

Like you, however, I am taking my time going full bore with SET. Why? Because when I look around, there are very few people who settle with SET for their main system for the long term. SET + high-efficiency speakers are still a very niche segment of our market. I've mentioned in the past that systems that are highly resolving (say, Krell + Wilson) can sound extremely impressive during short auditions because they have tremendous detail and dynamics. But those very attributes make them fatiguing over the long term. That's why one should never make major audio decisions based on short-term store auditions. I believe that something similar - but opposite - happens with SET. The sound is the opposite of fatiguing. It's deliciously smooth. But over time, it can become too much of a good thing. It can become - dare I say - a bit boring. Just a theory at this point, but there has to be a reason why there aren't more SET + high-efficiency systems out there. In either case, I am very interested in the subject (as you can probably tell from my posts) and I might have something more to contribute in the weeks and months to come . Alberto |

High-efficiency speakers compatible with low wattage tube SET amplification:
Merlin, Klipsch, Zu, Coincident Technology, Acapella, Avantgarde, Devore, Cain and Cain, Living Voice, Omega, Tannoy, Horning, Rethm. I am sure there are many more but these are some that come to mind. |
