Key for streamers (at least for me) is how complete they are in functions, compatibility...

Best one is the NODE2:

Roon ready, Tidal, Spotify, IOS, Android, Wifi, Ethernet, Gapless, MQA,

All the other streamers i was checking they were missing some of that..

How is their mobile software app?
I see it has 2.5 stars in the Apple store and lots of unhappy customers.
I am using Sonos and would like the ability to handle hirez files.
The Spnos app is really very good.

Tom

I had both the Aries Mini and the Node 2 in-house at the same time intending to only keep one. The Mini beat it to me handily in sound and software. The only thing it doesn't do and probably never will is MQA. The owner and founder of Auralic was in fact one of the original member of the group but he and MQA's leader had a falling out over implementation and he left the group. Auralic has there own algorithm that accomplishes much the same thing. I can not honestly tell the difference between their version and the "Official" version implemented on the Lumin.

I'm using the Auralic Mini more than a year now and very satisfied - great software and sound. Not using it's DAC and connecting it with USB cable.
If You have external DAC of good quality You no need to invest in "higher" Aries.
The Auralic Mini is unbeatable in a price range, quality and performance (IMHO)

Here is my way of looking at streaming: Get any streamer that can feed bit perfect data to you DAC. Then put the money on the DAC.

Most any digital source is capable of providing bit perfect data to a DAC, even from an inexpensive CD/DVD player or streamer. The problem is that being bit perfect does not guarantee proper timing, a lack of jitter and power supply noise that can corrupt the converted analog output of a DAC. If digital audio reproduction was as simple as digital data being moved on computer networks our lives would be easier and our bank balances higher, but unfortunately the timing of the data and noise transfer affect the sound even with bit perfect data being presented to the DAC.

How bout a new Lumin D2 or for a better price a used Lumin D1 (there's one on Agon now for $1295).

The D1/D2 is Roon ready, plays Tidal, Spotify and TuneIn radio locally, and is airplay capable. Handles DSD and can up convert to DSD and is MQA certified/capable. And the Lumin app is fantastic.

I've had a Lumin A1 and now a S1. Have spent a fair amount of time listening to the D1 at a dealer and it's no slouch.
