Default Opinions of the Apetite Int Amp?

As a first foray in Shindo, I was considering a new Apetite. This, of course, presumes it is still available. I would be interested to hear what people think of the Shindo integrated amp. I would prefer to go the Auieges/Montille route, but the shift to low watt Shindo gear also necessitates a change of speakers and interconnects which is hard to swallow all at once!

Do people feel that the characteristic Shindo sound is there? Any opinions? Should I sit on my hands and wait out a secondhand Auieges/Montille?

Thanks for the advice...

Simon

I am indeed, down by the beach in Kitsilano. I see you're in North Van. Did you start out with the Aurieges / Montille combination or some other Shindo kit? Out of interest, did you get your gear from Matt at Perfect Pitch?

Regards,

Simon

I worked with Steve at ils and they shipped to me. I also bought my super 8's from them. I got it all shipped to point Roberts and picked it up.

Hi Simon,

While I have no experience with the Appetite, I do have a Montille.
The Montille with the right efficiency speakers could last you a long time.
If you could swing it the seperates are the way to go. I Just upgraded my Monbrison to the Masseto and the Montille still works great. That said if you were to buy an Appetite from Matt then he will give 100% value if you choose to trade up. Be careful with the Shindo path, once you are in, you will be hooked! Looks like we may have another member of the Vancouver Shindo Club.
Cheers

Simon,

If you can buy a used Shindo pre or amp from an authorized dealer, I would make that my first step and then add the other component as finances allow.

PitchPerfect has an Auriges MM (with an MM phono stage) available now:

SPECIALS & Trade Items [ Updated 6.29.13 ] | pitch perfect audio

Nothing agains the Apetite, but having separates gives you so many more options. I was stunned by how well my Auriges and Monbrison preamp pulled "that Shindo" sound even when matched with amps from other brands.

Whatever you decide, I think you'll be very happy.

Keep us posted.

Alberto

PS Can your Mystere be configured to run as a power amp only?

Alberto,

Unfortuately, the Mystere does not have a dedicated preamp input. In the short term (ie, likely not sonically best) it can be used according to their web site. But they mean by setting the volume on the Mystere 1/2wayish and routing the seperate preamp output through one of the line inputs on the integrated Mystere.

The Mystere is quite a lovely amp; however, I know it has circuit boards controlling the bias of the EL34's and a solid state rectifier. As such, I feel there is more sonic bliss to be had.

Dale, what did you do with the Monbrison? I assume its stateside by now?

Regards,

Simon
