Why is this the first retailer that I don't feel bad they are closing...

I am actually sorry to read that Bose is closing stores.

As audiophiles, most of us have little use for Bose. But for many people, Bose represents quality audio. It cannot hurt - and can only help - for them to be exposed to audio systems, and the biggest issue with Bose is value, not quality. There are many audio products substantially worse than Bose, even though there are many that have much better quality and are more competitively priced.

Seeing a Bose store in a mall can only heighten awareness and prompt conversation about audio systems, and that's a good thing. I have a "big tent" approach to audio, and think there's room for Bose under the tent even if it has a low "desirabality index" for us.

I have a Bose system, btw. In my car. I'm not crazy about it.

One of my early systems was Crown IC150 and a pair of Crown D150 amps connected to Bose 901s. At the time I loved that system and wanted everyone to listen to it. I have fond memories of all-day, all-night listening sessions and credit that setup as the beginning of a life-long pursuit of better sound. I wish Bose the very best.

I heard a Bose 901 system with Bryston gear just last Saturday night.

Suffice it to say that my thoughts about how it sounded are better left unsaid...

I’ll bet it’s NOT because you are upset with your choices thus far.

Um....nope. BTW, Andrew Jones was there listening, too. I think he was being...polite in the best possible British manner.

We had just heard his new ELAC Navis active speakers at the SFAS meeting that afternoon.

Those sounded...fantastic. He was getting the Navis bookshelf speakers to perform in a manner you simply couldn't do with a comparable passive speaker.
