I'll just throw this out there for consideration - but would the Mementos be a better option?

Momentos are a high on my list as well.

Looking for a more forgiving speaker that sounds great at low volume. Can be driven by tubes possibly and may replace the C1's.

Joe, as a fan of Devore speakers I thought these might tickle your fancy.

Devore gibbon 3XL.

You may be looking for the Black Swan. It's tough to find a small speaker that's efficient enough to sound great at low volume.

Devore may be your best bet, with that claimed 90 dB efficiency. And they're certainly on the SF end of the spectrum.

Or try some nice headphones.

Jon - I agree. That's a heck of a challenge. What about those Klipsch P-17B? That's the most efficient I could find. Combined with a little ARC 75 - it could be pretty darn good.

Thanks Doug,

I like those. I'll have to check them out.

All this thought is dependent on keeping the 911mk3's and getting a forgiving speaker to match or do a small tube amp/speaker combo for fun.

Thanks Jon,

I think, in the end, finding a speaker to maximize the 911's strengths and minimizing their faults will be the goal. The Dart/TAD combo is a done deal for me, no need to looks further. The 911's need a perfect pair.

Absolutely. As you know the 911's are overkill for the little Devores but they might give you the added warmth that you're looking for with the Burmesters. At 90db they should also be good at lower volumes.

...and Devores sound fantastic with tubes, whatever that amp may be. I'm running a 22w SET with my Super 8's (a smaller sized two-way) and love the combo. At this point I would only trade in my 8's for a pair of the Nines as the dealer I use may be selling his demo pair for the new O/96's. Which, by the way, depending on how big or small a speaker you're looking at might be another option for you. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Decision, decisions...

True. It all depends on how much of a hit I "need" to take on selling the amps.

Joe, apologies if you have already discussed this elsewhere, but is there not an option to send the amps back to Burmester and have them converted to stereo. And ask them to set the bias as high as possible whilst they are at it

You may find it much easier to then sell the second amp, rather than a pair of monos, and keep one to run Guarneri, which will certainly be enough.

IIRC, and I often don't, you preferred your original stereo 911.

Whilst I agree with earlier comments that many smaller speakers require a good kick in the guts to come alive, and are dead sounding at lower volumes, I have not always found this relates to the sensitivity of the speaker. Seems just as much about the complexity, or not, of the cross-over to me.

Most of the better Sonus Faber small speakers have always had the attribute of sounding alive at lower volumes. And this certainly applies to any of the Guarneri.
