Has Comcast Declared War on TIVO
I received my latest Comcast bill to see that the 2 cable cards I use for my TIVO series 3 unit has increased from $8.00/month to $17.90/month. This, plus the TIVO fee has made me think about my options.
First I contacted TIVO and was told it is out of their control and I should think about upgrading to a newer unit that only requires one cable card. I responded that suggestion is a Catch 22...spend more money with them not to spend more money with Comcast. Between all the little increases in the Comcast charges, my bill has risen 20% in the last 4 months. I still have a 5 LNA dish from DirecTV on the roof. I have seen a lot of emails and promos in the papers. I must however consider my Internet provider at that point. I'm OK with the Comcast Internet service but they will require me to pay more if I cancel my cable with them. I am in an area where AT&T still has a lot of copper and little or no Fiber Optic. So that Internet option is a crap shoot. Verizon is not in the area. What to do?

The cable companies aren't as stupid as we like to think.
They want the control of the copies and recording of their programs to stay "in the cloud" so they have the copy--not you--you just have access to it. The best would be to have a digital DVR recorder where you made the recording on your own hard drive. That way you would own it and you you wouldn't be paying the creeps their ridiculous fees. |
