Just being inquisitive, 5 DSP8k 40th Anniversary or 5 DSP8k SE?
I have heard the former and indeed its breath taking, so much so, I had taken a turn to the other side as I know its impossible to replicate what I have seen and heard last year. Now, would the 5 NEW DSP8k SE do the same magic or be even better than the 40th Anniversary? I am just thinking .... what do you say Crion? I always trusted your valuable advise as this might just swing me back ... But this time, 5x and a new place. Cheers!

Jerry,
The SE is a new development after the anniversaries. The beryllium tweeter for one thing is atleast technically flawless, it does not ring. The DSP has double the capacity, EBA is introduced in the DSP8k's. They surpass the DSP 40th Anniversary performancewise (The 40th Anniversaries can upgrade to SE as well). Theoretically the difference should be even more vast than what the 40th Anniversary offered because the development improvements are in several key areas. I've still not heard them yet but I'm in the planning stages of how I'm going to go about the upgrade. In my setup I'm currently shuffling around the surround speakers with trade-in/upgrades. That means getting rid of older speakers that can not get upgrades to SE (My trusty DSP5000 comes to mind and a time limited trade-in of my DSP5200's to SE's). After that I will probably take one upgrade at a time, DSP8k's, DSP7200HC. So the answer to your question is; - Yes! 5 DSP8k SE will surpass 5 DSP8k 40:th Anniversary. Bump, 5 years later and I’m asking everybody I can if they upgraded their 8000’s to se and to describe the difference as you hear them. This is my last go round and i would love to know what I’m getting into.
If anyone is interested, I bought the se upgrade for my 2010 dsp8000's and once delivered and installed I can provide a personal review of me perceived differences. Last edited by stev809; 06-16-2019 at 09:32 AM. |
