Osage products.

Thanks to Jeff (A/V Solutions) and once again, his spot on advice, I tried his Osage products consisting of Osage brushes and 3 step record cleaning formula.

I wanted to experiment a bit with the different cleaning solutions as I develop a feel for what works better for my needs of cleaning records which I consider a must at this point. Having tried playing both brand new and used, cleaned and uncleaned records, the difference is very audible not to mention the stylus stays clean and happy not having to track through crud and mold release chemicals.

I first tried the Mo-Fi products with their Super Deep Cleaner, Record Wash Cleaner solution and their brushes consisting of rubber handles and a flat felt pad. I've cleaned about a dozen records this way so far. While it works, I still heard a bit of surface noise here and there and having observed the cleaning process on the Typhoon with the Mo-Fi brushes, I noticed they spread the liquid out very nicely but the felt really doesn't seem to get deep into the grooves possibly leaving some residue and crud behind if it doesn't come up with the liquid.


Next I tried a bottle of Audio Intelligent Vinyl Solutions Enzymatic Formula, followed by the Super Cleaner Formula and Ultra Pure Water. This is a 3 step process. Using the Osage brushes which have a nice cherry handle with nylon bristles that gently "agitate" the fluid in the grooves and "lift" the crud to the surface to be picked up by the vac cycle. I thought the process does leave the records a bit cleaner overall and the difference was again audible.

The real test of course would be to do a side by side comparison to be sure what I am hearing is really the difference in the process/brushes or just different sound from different records.

The best I could evaluate and compare the two methods was made easier by the fact that I have two copies of Pink Floyd's "Echoes" a 4 LP set.

Now for A/B comparison. The first set was cleaned on the Typhoon with the Mo-Fi fluid and brushes, the second set with the Osage/AIVS process. The records were A/B'd on the table playing the same tracks. I noticed the Osage/AIVS did have less surface noise with a decrease in background noise levels for increased clarity and blacker background.




I really don't know the difference in chemistry between these products but I do like the results! The excellent Osage brushes really do a great job of agitating the dirt/dust particles deep in the grooves and bring them up to the surface during the 3 step Audio Intelligent Vinyl Solutions cleaning process and get vacuumed easily by the powerful suctioning of the Typhoon.
