I’m a bit late in writing about my trip out east to attend the big event – I arrived back home just before midnight on Tuesday evening and have been slammed with work the past few days. I am grateful to have the weekend here to both catch up from the trip as well as to get ready for another trip out to the Oregon Coast for my annual family reunion which I leave for on Wednesday!
 I will write my thoughts over a few different posts – I had just finished writing several paragraphs earlier this evening when I accidently closed my browser window and lost everything. So I will start over (in Word this time) but probably won’t write everything all at once. The main reason I decided to make the trip out to attend the “Experience” was to take the opportunity to finally meet Ivan and his family in person. Being able to hear his two Cape systems, as well as the other demos that were running at the event, were a big part of it also, as much of an audio enthusiast as I am, but that part was secondary for me. It was also a nice reason to plan a vacation for Melinda and me to get away and visit a place we had never been before. I have known Ivan for several years now and have spoken to him over the phone, email, PM, etc. but we had not met in person until this past weekend. He has done a lot for both me and my dad and I was glad to finally be able to meet him and shake his hand and say thanks for all he has done. Ivan is an absolute pleasure to be around – it is easy to be relaxed and enjoy yourself in his company, and he and his family welcome you into their home with open arms and wonderful hospitality. Ivan was a gracious host to me and all of his guests, both at the reception at the clubhouse on Friday night as well as during the day on Saturday. And what a day it was! I felt like the proverbial kid at the candy store listening to and absorbing all of the fantastic systems that were on display. I was at Ivan’s home on Saturday for just over seven hours, and I can’t remember ever having time go by so quickly!  I will write more about my listening impressions of the systems and post some pictures in a separate post. I have to say that the best part of the day for me was meeting and visiting with all of the other AA’ers who made the trip out to attend the Experience. I spent a nice amount of time talking with Jim, Robert, Cyril, John, Rob, Randy, Mike, David and I am probably not remembering everyone off the top of my head. I also spoke at length with Bill from Sumiko, Robb from Burmeister, and Ian from PMC. They were all great to visit with and learn from and I hope to see them again. My only regret is that I didn’t get a chance to meet some of the AA’ers who weren’t able to make the trip this time – I hope to meet more of you at a future event! I planned the trip to stay a couple of extra days after the Experience was over on Saturday to explore the Cape a bit more and extend the vacation time with my wife. During that time Ivan was gracious enough to invite Melinda and me out to dinner on Monday evening with him and Donna. We had a fantastic dinner, and I greatly appreciated the extra 1:1 time with them to visit more and to be able to get to know them better. We had a delicious meal, and Ivan invited us back to his place where I was able to have some extra listening time in both rooms as well as get a broader tour of their Cape home. The pictures of the home do not do it justice at all – it is much bigger than it looks from the outside and from pictures, and really is well laid out and wonderfully furnished. I really feel honored to have been able to meet Ivan and everyone else this past weekend. It was a blast – and I look forward to doing it again sometime soon! More to come soon in terms of audio impressions from the demos, and some pictures that Melinda took with our new Nikon 3100 which we were just literally that day figuring out how to use for the first time. Thanks again Ivan to you, Donna, Richard, and Shanna for your hospitality and all of your hard work to put last weekend together. I know I speak for everyone who attended when I say that we appreciate everything that you do!
