The X250.5 I currently own is going to the dealer as a trade-in (got excellent value for it).
Congratulations. The Xa's are really fine amps.

I hope you need the added heat in your room.

Thanks, guys. I'm looking forward to having the new amps as part of my system. The X250.5 dissipates about 300 W, and these new amps will double that. Winter is coming so it will be nice to have the additional heat in my basement listening room. Will keep you posted...

Congrats Carlos! I can't wait to hear what you think of them once they're fully broken in. The heat produced by the XA-100.5 model is not significant and should not be an issue. Just provide plenty of space around them to ventilate and you'll be fine. I'm also very happy with my cherry finish Solid Tech amp stands. The amps fit on very nicely.

Ken

Default XA100.5s in the house!

Hi, everyone. Quick update.

I received my XA100.5s yesterday. Within the hour I had them set up in my system and, even though they are brand new, they already sound very fine right out of the box.

Physically, each XA100.5 is the same size and weight as the X250.5 they are replacing. I have them hooked up to a 20-amp line even though the manual says they can be fed through a single 15-amp outlet. They run as warm as the X250.5, but there are two of them so the heat dissipation into the room just doubled (winter is coming so they will keep me cozy in the next few months).

I will write more about my sonic impressions as they break in...

Enjoy Carlos! I turn mine on right after I get home from work. After two hours of warm-up, they sound their finest.

I have two X600.5 amps, and find that also to be the case. Today is Friday so I will turn them on in a minute before I leave for work so that they will be primed when I get home tonight.

When I first got them I left them on from Thursday night until Sunday night when I went to bed. This was the same procedure I used for years with my previous amps. I received these amps around the 2nd week of July, and this procedure added over $250 dollars to my July electric bill due to the increased AC use required from their heat. CA has very high rates when you exceed your base electric amount, and these amps easily put you over that amount.

I too am looking forward to winter, but since I have gas heat they will not help save much from that bill. But they do sound good.

Hi Bud,

How is the solar installation working out? Is it saving you money yet?

Yes, but I am still waiting for PG&E to install my meter so that I can start getting paid for the excess electricty I give them. Obviously, it is to their advantage to delay, delay, and delay.

But at least my amps are now warming up for free.
