Maxx 4?
Has anyone heard rumors of a MAXX 4?
With the Alexia and and the new Sasha, I have to think the Maxx is next. But when? |

If not a week before Munich, then next CES. I bet on the next CES as they will have thier hands full of work delivering the Sasha 2 for the next 12 months.

The Sasha II was on static display at CES. Is it possible that voicing hasn't completed yet?

There will never be a MAXX 4.

I don't know anything about Wilson products, but why do you say that? |

Because 4 is a bad luck number in Asia, apparently. So probably there will be a MAXX 5...
I am curious when the Sophia update is coming, wonder if it's getting a tweeter update too.

The Magico S3, may push a Sophia update, but I just got off the phone with a long time friend who was at CES, and he wasn't impressed with the S3 or S5 in any of the rooms where they were displayed. It's very obvious that the S5 was designed to compete with the WA Sasha at the $30K price point, and it has been very successful..hence the WA Sasha Series 2. It well be interesting to see how DW and his son voice the Sasha Series 2. |

I think the new Maxx whatever the "number" will not be before 2015. I don't think Wilson will introduce more than one speaker per year. But the Sophia could certainly precede the new Maxx. I was a little surprised to see the new Sasha precede the new Maxx. The Maxx3 is a strong platform. As I listen to mine, yes without doubt if I had my druthers I would choose the new Wilson/Alexia sound. It is more refined, no question. But it's not a blow away in any sense. Maxx bass is better than Alexia bass by a significant margin. Pure midrange slightly better and treble not quite as smooth. That to my ears is about it. Maxx woofers are old but are going to be very difficult to replace with something better. It should be easy to improve the midrange and treble but the bass is another matter. I have never seen woofers that look as "plain" as the Maxx3's that are as rugged and produce the quality of bass as the current woofers. However I believe Wilson will be obligated to replace them and improve the bass cabinet. It is going to be a daunting task, even for Wilson which seems to produce miracles on a regular basis.

You do not need to replace the woofers to imprve the bass or the cabinet. The woofers in the Maxx 3, sourced from Focal, are as good as it gets.

The woofers if not replaced would be 15 years old. That's what I mean by the Maxx3 being a strong platform. If you read the Stereophile review the cabinet revealed zero resonance. I believe the bass system should be updated completely for significant improvement and that's going to be difficult even for Wilson.
