Greetings to all members of a new one on this site
Well this surprises me. On ease of driving, lets compare the B&W 802 Diamond to the Wilson speakers folks around here most often mate to ARC tube amps.
The 802Di have the same sensitivity as Wilson Sasha (90-92 dB depending on the reviewers calibration) but the minimum impedance for the 802Di is 3.5 ohm vs 1.8 ohm for the Sasha, and the Wilson is an average of 2 ohm lower overall. Given that the REF75 (and VSi75 and before that VSi60, all with KT120's) were built and voiced for the Sasha's, the 802Di should be if anything easier to drive. The Sophia 3 has a similar impedance as the B&W but the sensitivity is much lower, 85 dB. So again, if an ARC amp can drive Wilson well it should drive the 802Di no worse (see Jeff Dugay's review of the 802Di in Tone Audio where he attributes the ease of driving the new 802 Di to a simple crossover which avoids large impedance excursions). The latest generation of ARC also has significantly larger power supplies than the prior for a given wattage with the REF75 and VSi75 both formally "75 watts" have the same power reserve specification as the REF110 and VS115, respectively though the earlier pair had a higher formal watt limit of 110-120 watts.

For whatever reason, historical, or dealer families, it appears people who get B&W more often get McIntosh and those who get Wilson more often go with ARC. The most important thing I can say is that my ARC amp sounds fantastic with my 802Di, and I did not prefer the Wilson/ARC combos my dealer played for me (no knock on Wilson, just a preference). It's also important to note that my room is modest in size, I sit just 9 feet away, and I listen at moderate volume (70-85 dB). So I am rarely if ever asking for more than 5 watts with plenty of headroom to spare. It's commonly said, 'B&W 800s love plenty of power' or are 'power hungry' but this is the kind of statement that is repeated without examination and that is hard to disprove. This current generation of 800's are much easier to drive than the prior which may be the origin of this statement. I have tried moderately priced SS amps with 4 times the rating that didn't sound half as good as ARC across the spectrum including bass. From much experimentation I can say that other variables are bigger drivers of the sound quality I hear than ARC wattage. If anyone is contemplating a combination of B&W 802Di and ARC REF75 (or VSi75), I would say its a great combo. I also I use top of the line Shunyata power base (Triton and Typhon with Python Zitron cables) and Transparent Reference audio cables. A fair reason to go for the REF150 could be flexibility in case the next speakers you get need them, or your room is big or you listen loud.
