I don't see why Burmester preamps wouldn't work with the Gryphon amp; with 31dB gain the amp only needs 1V from the preamp for its full power. Also the Gryphon's input impedance is over 10x that of the Burmester amp. So from an electrical pov the 077 or 808 will match flawlessly to the Mephisto.

It's hard to believe for me that old designs of 808-5 is still competitive today, being modular design it has extra connection points. There are extra level control at each input and output module, more contact points, and an after-thought add on in latest version is the remote controlled volume mode, which add another extra circuit into the preamp in series with main Volume control. The signal has to flow pass 4 volume control from input to output, although very likely that the level controllers in input and output module will be at max position. But all this complexity, 808-5 is said to be one of the best. It has much lower output impedance than 077 too. One more thing I worry about Burmester is that chrome plated front panel
Will likeLy to have some small spots on the surface in a few years.
Prices of Pandora, 808-5,077+PS Are also quite close at 24,000,27000(3 modules installed),31000€ retail respectively. This makes sound quality to be the only remaining factors.

The Burmester chrome plating is in a league of its own; aside from fingerprints (use gloves), it will not deteriorate with time passing. Ask Ivan, he has Burmester for some years now and I'm sure it's spotless.

In the same price range you could also try the Levinson 52.

Nº52 - Mark Levinson

If dropping around 30k on a preamp you need to try as many models as possible before deciding what to buy; I'd make a list with balanced SS preamps and see what I could home audition.

Lots of spots on volume knob on my 032. And have seen on others units too.
But the tone of 032 driving Mephisto is more to my liking than from Pandora.
But a lot more audible noise from tweeter than what I heard from Pandora, of course it is an int. Amp. With low S/N ratio.
And Accuphase C3850 is coming in soon.

909 vs Mephisto should be very interesting; too bad you didn't get the 077+psu also to pair with them.

Just looked at the Accuphase C-3850 specs and the quoted minimum load that it can drive is 600 Ohms, so it won't have any problems with the low input impedance of the Burmester amp.
