It's not multi-channel SACD?

I was so looking forward to this new release, but I must say that I am hugely disappointed. I love her two Violin Concertos, the Chaconne for piano, and some other works, but these pieces just don't work for me. I play classical guitar, and maybe I was hoping for more from her than either simplistic chordal strumming or the use of external devices such as a pick, bottleneck, and balls (rubber, presumably). A moot point, but the sound quality is excellent. I'll be selling mine as soon as it's available on Amazon Aug.12. Andy: Don't even bother...

Listening to . . . . Frederic Chopin - Piano Concerto No 1 in E minor, Op. 11
Piano Concerto No. 2 in E minor, Op. 21 Martha Argerich - Piano Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal - Charles Dutoit, Conductor As has been stated many times previously in this thread, Martha Argerich was a quintessential Chopin interpreter and this recording speaks to the perfection in her playing. The accompaniment of Dutoit and the Montreal is beautifully done and this is an nice showpiece album.

Lovely music there;
@John - thanks for the heads up - unusual for BIS to put out a dud.. Tonight I had an audiophile visit. Nice fellow but wanted to chat. I can't really tell you what I was listening to, as there wasn't much listening going on. Too much talking... sigh.

This morning listening to:
Schubert: Wanderer Fantasia; Sonata in A Major op. 120 Sviatoslav Richter Angel 1963 (vinyl) Richter's playing is a joy: incredible dynamic range, ranging from the gentlest touch in the softer passages to real power when called for. He plays the Wanderer with real feeling, power and romance, no dry modern interpretation here. Recording does it justice as well. And a small personal note: I inherited a love of the piano works of Schubert, Liszt, Chopin et al from my father, who studied to be a classical pianist in his youth, was a fan of Richter's playing, and used to play Chopin nocturnes on the piano when I was young. Playing these older vinyl recordings always reminds me of him.

Yeah, it's probably more a function of my loss of interest in such modern music rather than anything wrong with the performances--I'm sure others will thoroughly enjoy it. Oh, parts of the pieces are fine, and the Sarabande is lovely, but the various scrapings and weird sounds in the chamber pieces as well as most of the Piano Sonata's Adagio movement being played directly on the piano's strings just isn't my cup of tea anymore.

Sainte-Colombe time again...
Uplifting and quieting at the same time. Healing the soul, warming the heart. Time stands still, no flurry, no hurry anymore. I think I like this.
