@jostber, I have exceeded Paypal's 45 days limit to submit a claim
@cmalak, thanks for your suggestion. I agree that lawyers are expensive and are not worthwhile in my case, but I would not rule out this option at this stage (because I won't let Mr. Boey go away easily). @Philip, thanks for your support. I am aware of the distributor in Guangzhou but too bad I did not know it had an office in Hong Kong before. With hindsight, it might even be better to travel to Guangzhou to buy the DAC instead of getting into my current situation. Actually it was mainly convenience instead of price that made me buy online. Even after this incident, my overall experience with internet shopping is still a positive one, but certainly I would be even more cautious in future with the costly items. @Ron-C, Jerome and JL, I will file a complaint with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Centre (IC3) after I confirm that the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs could do nothing. I need to take my actions step by step and in an orderly manner because I do not have unlimited time but I would not give up easily. I read from IC3's website that they would not investigate themselves but would refer to the appropriate enforcement agencies after reviewing the case. I am sure Mr. Boey had already committed some criminal offences through his acts and it is only a matter of time the right enforcement agency would be alerted to take enforcement actions. When that happens, it would not matter if the victim is American, French or Chinese nor would the amount of money be important. In a country like the US, I would indeed be very surprised if there are no sanctions against such frauds and if a seller could be allowed to conduct his business in such a manner without being penalized. @ jeff, thanks and yes, this thread would serve its purpose if it continues to spread the words. I will keep all posted of the development. Thanks. Last edited by lio; 12-25-2011 at 10:21 AM. |

JL, I'd rather live in France and have a good friend like Jerome in the US, than to be able to write English
Many thanks for your support in any case! Last edited by lio; 12-26-2011 at 08:31 AM. |
