But combination I am running now and like a lot is duelund .6 cast resistor (from partsxpress) in tweeters with custom Maggie jumpers from empirical design in the midrange when running CJ 350 amp (when running VAC tube amp may replace the resistor with jumper after Maggies break in).

Below is the note to me from emp designs owner - his obsessive attention to detail sold me. Super good guy to deal with. Jumpers align with fast open Maggie sound.

"Darrin,

I have indeed fabricated custom Magnepan jumpers for several customers. In order to avoid frequency-dependent phase shift due to skin depth, the jumpers are simply made of mil-spec PTFE Telfon insulated silver-plated copper wire, with the exposed ends doubled-back and tinned with silver solder.

Fortunately the Magnepan set-screws are long enough to compress the tinned ends against the opposite wall of the sockets when tightened snugly.

I recommend 18 gauge wire for the midrange jumper, and 22 gauge wire for the tweeter jumper, which insures that all phase shift is outside of each driver's effective passband.

Cost is $10 for each 4" jumper; i.e. $40 for a set of four jumpers, plus $6 for Priority Mail shipping.

Thanks for your interest in Empirical Design; just let me know if you'd like to order a set of the jumpers.

Sincerely,

Karl"
Darrin - put in an order with Karl for a set of Empirical Design jumpers for the 3.7s.

I got a confirmation email on the 25th of December from Karl saying a set of his musical wires had been dispatched and were winging their way to me... sure he must have been wearing a big red suit at the time... what a fantastic joy he has been to deal with... many thanks for the recommendation... the Maggies look forward to getting their new jumpers - they are a christmas present just for them because they have been so very good this year.

I'd like to know how such small differences in resistance could cause detrimental phase shift.

We don't ask those types of questions in Audiophileville

Maybe we need a "Tech Talk" forum.

Gotta admit I always struggle with the science... spose that's why reliable recommendations are so valuable for a distance challenged antipodean audiophile... these days I use AA as a primary source for info and when Darrin said that the Empirical Designs jumpers fitted the open Maggie sound he said a whole lot to me... also given the outlay and potential improvement over the stock jumper it seemed like a small bet rather than a big one.

So I glossed over the phase shift and accepted that for Karl empirical assessment is his comfort zone and then took heart took when Karl referred to them as his little musical wires and gave me a glimpse of the deeper value wrapped up in them by Karl. Looking forward to finding out for myself now .

Congrats on the wise purchase. They beat the cardas golden reference jumpers made for Maggies. I am now running a duelund .6 cast resistor in tweeter and empirical design jumper in the midrange. Perfect for my ears. Although now that the CJ pr350 is warming up/breaking in I might try the emp designs jumper in the tweeter too. Let us know what you think when you get them!!

Have had the Empirical Design jumpers in for a week now, how can a few short pieces of wire make so much difference, mids opened right up... just where did that midrange come from... making the stock bridge seem so congested in comparison and the treble shimmers with the new jumpers... less grain, more detailed and extended... performance vs cost ratio for Karl's musical little wires is just off the chart, just $40 for a real big step up in performance for the mids and treble in particular... many thanks Karl for your fantastic wires and also for dpod for the recommendation, can I pass it on to ANY 3.7 owners... absolutely awesome

Graham

Glad they are working out for you, Graham. I like your description esp of midrange opening up. Makes me want to buy some other empirical design stuff.

Default Mye stands for 3.7's

This is my second pair of Mye braces. First ones were fitted to my 1.7's which made me so happy I ordered a second Mye Stealth while waiting for my newly ordered 3.7's. The struts are wide enough apart that allows me to use my Odyessy monoblocks as ballast as you need a bunch of weight in the back to keep the panels from falling forward. The amps are positioned such as to place the amp output posts a few inches from the Maggies inputs, a short wire does the rest. Yes the Mye Stands are a great investment. The Stealth model looks much smarter without the toes in front. Peechus.
