I’m still amazed at how dynamic these RCA recordings are, they can really knock you off your seat if you’re not paying attention. They sound so lifelike.

Default What Classical Music Are You Listening To Tonight?

Bach: Das Wohltemperierte Klavier Buch I
Keith Jarrett, piano
ECM (1988)

I wish Jarrett would play more classical.

Playing this recording of Ning Feng playing Paganini and Vieuxtemps violin concertos from Channel Classics, via Qobuz. The performance is good, but I wish the violin were a little more forward in the mix.

Chopin: Mazurkas
Pavel Kolesnikov, piano
Hyperion (2016), 24/96 files

Beautiful recording, Kolesnikov is an impressive Chopin interpreter.

I love these works, I admire the cellist, and they all do play well... but what happened with the sound engineer, if there was one?!
This doesn't sound good.

Barrière - Sonates pour le violoncelle avec la basse continue
Bruno Cocset
Les Basses Réunies

Just back from a concert with Bruno Cocset and Les Basses Réunies.
They played most pieces from their album 'Give Me your Hand'.
Cocset is a top musician.
The nuances he can put in his playing are fantastic.
This being said, I prefer this album to what we heard.
It has more soul than the celtic tunes.

Tony, yes it is.
You have a sharp eye!
I have both versions in my collection now.
I saw a CD cover of which I knew we didn't own, and I always like to support the musicians, so I bought it yesterday.
This will be a gift to somebody!
