My issue with the pads is if something is going to fall on the deck, it will come out of the bottom door, or it will come off one of the shelves that attach to the side of the grill. These pads are usually too small. The pad should be more in front of the grill and further out to the sides to account for things rolling off the shelves. Directly underneath will be cool and doesn't really need any protection. The kamado style grills are a blast to have. Very versatile.
