Basic Settings?
Oppo Fans..... Okay, so this fell out of the back of the Big Brown Truck yesterday:
So I opened the box up, pulled our Oppo 203 off of our Lovan rack and replaced it with the Oppo 105D...I guess I was pretty anxious to hear the new player because I forgot to remove the King Crimson...Crimson King DVD-A out of the 203's tray. As I wanted to give the new 105D a quick test, I connected its Stereo Output connectors directly to the Mac MX130s CD1 input via a flat ribbon RCA interconnect cable. After fiddling with the 105D's remote control for a while, I managed to get some sound out of our N802s, but I had to crank up the volume controls on the MX130 pre-pro to levels I've never had to use before. In other words, the audio signal coming out of the 105D's Stereo Output RCA jacks is at a very low level. Don't get me wrong, the Joni Miitchell music being delivered by the 105D sounded very sweet, but it took quite a bit of pre-amplification to hear those lovely sounds. As we presently have our Sony X800M2 connected directly to our LG OLED TV, I'm wondering if anyone has experimented with using a small monitor of some sort to access the 105D's internal setup menus? If you have, is it simply a matter of using an HDMI connection? Please bear in mind that -- other than the aforementioned HDMI connection between the Sony X800M2 player and our LG OLED -- we have zero experience with HDMI. Yep, I know...but that's how far beyond the times we are. If anyone has any other thoughts on changing the output levels of an Oppo 105 player, we would be very grateful for them. Thank you for your time

The remote has a - + at the top for volume control.

The old KISS principle...

In our defense, though ... We haven't owned either Oppo player for very long -- and we've never touched those controls on the 203 remote. I guess we got lucky there.

I think by default, the Oppo should be at 100% but this was probably used and set up differently by the last owner.. a factory reset usually helps

Bill,
Use HDMI cable to connect your 105 to your LG OLED TV. I'm sure your LG OLED TV has multiple HDMI inputs. You said one is used to connect from your Sony 4K bluray player. You can connect your 105 to the other HDMI input on your LG OLED tv. Alternatively, you can download the Oppo 105 media control app on your mobile device. But you will have to have the Oppo 105 connected to your home internet wifi and have your mobile device (tablet or smart phone) connected to the same home wifi as the Oppo 105. Then go to Oppo website and go to the 105 link and download its mobile app or media control app. With this, you won't have to connect your Oppo 105 to your TV. With using the Oppo 105 media control app you will have access to the same Oppo main menu setup as you would when you have the Oppo connected to your tv display. On the Oppo 105 main menu settings, go to "setup menu", go to "audio processing", make sure that the "output volume" is set to "fixed" and turn the volume to maximum 100. It will solve the low gain or low input signal coming from your 105. I recommend using the XLR balanced stereo analog out of your 105 as it sounds better than the RCA single-ended. I'm sure your Mac MX130 has XLR balanced analog audio input. Last edited by Dilettante; 09-17-2020 at 01:05 AM. |

Mac MX121 XLR connections
Quote:
The Mac MX121 -- that's on its way -- does have XLR inputs, however, so your advice is well received. The Oppo 105D will definitely be connected to the MX121 via balanced XLR cabling.

Bill,
You're right, the MX130 does not have any XLR inputs or outputs. So, you ended up with the MX121? |
