Which Hanhart watch?-help PC decide
So, I'm very close to making the decision around my first high-end luxury mechanical watch, and I think that's going to be Hanhart. Worn and Wound had a terrific video around the Monocontrol, and that got me really intrigued. Virtually every one of these watches is built by hand in the Black Forest area of Germany, using Valjoux movements, some of which are bespoke-modified by LeJoux Perret. The level of design thinking, engineering, craftsmanship, and execution on these watches is at a very high level, especially for the prices they are sold for.
Here are two videos describing Hanhart that I found most interesting: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIqrMhr0hDE[/ame] This one by Page and Cooper shows the factory and the level of design that goes into these watches: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBm1PtxyRgs[/ame] The three I'm considering are: The Hanhart Pioneer Single Button Chronograph: The Pioneer Monocontrol: and the Hanhart Primus Racer chronograph: I'd be perfectly happy with any of these, but would love to hear your thoughts about the ones you like.... Thanks, PC

I think the monocontrol with date looks the best, but that's only because I'm looking at them essentially side-by-side. Leather straps always look elegant (at least when new. Might want to inquire on a spare or have them throw one in). Do they have stainless options? Of course stainless will change the whole look. In any case, it's a nice looking watch.

The Monocontrol is certainly a serious candidate; they don't have stainless bracelets as far as I know. One of the things I really like about the Racer is the beautiful deployant clasp. Check out the Page and Cooper video for discussion around the strap and clasp. I think they are all incredibly beautiful watches, and have a real "tool watch" history with their legacy in stopwatches.

Purely as a matter of aesthetics, I like the black face one without the date, but obviously, that's subjective and you are the one who is going to wear the darn thing. I also like the brown band with the black watch, but I'm pretty much down to a Panerai, and that's what it looks like (which I like because I can see it!). Enjoy whatever one you buy. A good watch is a thing of pleasure.

Two very different looks, of the three I like number two. Has a bit more of a vintage feel over number one. Of course number three goes along with all those sports cars you have

Thanks, Don. I also like the vintage feel of the Pioneer Monocontrol very much also; a watch designed like the Hanharts that were pilots watches in the 30s and 40s in Germany.

Stephen First, congratulations but be careful. Luxury watches can be as addictive as hi end audio
Of the three watches pictured, I like the Pioneer single button chronograph. The dials on the other two are a bit cluttered for my taste. Whichever you choose will be a fine choice that you can enjoy for many years to come. I notice that your pics are courtesy of Watchbuys. If that is where you plan on purchasing it buy with confidence. I've bought from them in the past and their service is exemplary |
