Default CD player upsampling options

For those that have experimented with the various settings / options, what are your impressions?

I own the 306 SACD and have found the 96 / 96 combination to be the best sonic balance in my system.

Also, any impressions on using the on board DAC? Bypassed the DAC in my Magnum Dynalab XM tuner and have it plugged into the 306 using the DH Labs digital interconnect. An audible improvement even though the MD unit has a good quality converter.

When I owned the Cary 303-300 I found that each CD had a specific rate at which it sounded best. I kept track on all of my oft played discs so I could set accordingly.

Thanks Jim for the reply.

I thought about doing that but decided that the 96 / 96 setting sounded good with most recordings.

Also, I am a bit lazy at times.

I know what you mean about getting lazy. Since the sound quality of listening to either my MS-300 or Olive 4HD via the MCD-1100's DAC's is about 98% of spinning individual discs, my laziness keeps me from spending time locating and swapping out discs once every 45 minutes or so.

Hi Cyril,

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Jim, for some reason, I still enjoy looking for the appropriate selection and spinning those CD's.

Another question for Cary CDP owners.

Has anyone tried the mods performed by "asi-tech" or "Marigo Audio"?

I still enjoy my CDP and am looking for a reasonable price / performance bump absent replacing the unit.

Gordon

FWIW,

Sending my CDP to Ron Hendrik / Marigo Audio Labs over X-Mas for some minor surgery.

He will be installing some Bybee AC line purifiers as well as some other passive (RFI, EMI, vibration control) treatments.

We shall see, or is it hear.

Gordon...have you compared your 306 to the 306 Pro or the 303T? The 303T has been of interest to me. I was just wandering if you have had a chance to hear it and or compare it to your 306. Thx

PS: Let us know how the mods work out for you on the 306

Cyril,

Haven't heard either. I did have the "entry" model before upgrading.

Will post on the mod.

Hi dude, I recently acquired the 303t which replaced an audio research ref cd7. Please update us on the sonic benefits of the mods installed to your cdp.
