Pete, I have owned the DAC-2 since they were first produced, then upgraded to DSD SE as soon as that was available, and then upgraded to Femto clock as soon as that was available. I am using USB from laptop as transport. Don't get me wrong on the DAC-2, everything sounds great on DAC-2, including piano, just my impression that D100 being a little less robust sounding, sounds a bit closer to "my" interpretation of what a piano should sound like. Another plus for the DAC-2 is the DSD, the conversion process J River does to play DSD on D100 just doesn't sound as good as the DAC-2.

Pete, just to let you know after significant additional testing I found that the USB cable I was using on the D100 lent some of the additional realism to the presentation that I mentioned regarding piano and acoustic music. When I switched cables with the Wyred I got the same result on the Wyred. My conclusion after testing with exact same cables (USB, XLR,and power) is that I prefer the Wyred sonics over the D100. I will be keeping the DAC-2 DSD SE.

jrsub....that's interesting and good to know. I'm liking the DAC-2 DSDse more and more every day. It's getting better for sure, and it sounds fabulous.

Thanks for the input!

erniejade.... My pleasure. As I told jrsub, the DAC-2 DSDse is a winner. I'm more than thrilled with its sonics, and it's getting even better.

The great thing about McIntosh and Wyred 4 Sound is that it is easy to sell the gear when you are ready to move on. I already sold the D100 and recovered all my costs including original shipping.

I preferred the Audioquest Diamond USB over the Audioquest Cinnamon USB.
