Default KEF LS50 - does it live up to the hype?

Stay tuned...

My pair just arrived and is currently going through a break-in process, along with some new WireWorld Mini Eclipse 7 speaker cables.

Cool. Looking forward to your impressions. Are they replacing any speakers in particular?

Sort of... The JM Lab Sib/Cub are finally getting back into the master bedroom with a new receiver (so I once again have a complete 5.1 system), and these plus a new sub have arrived to mate with the Bel Canto (which is getting a bit of upgrades atm).

I'm using the LS50s with a pair of Bel Canto REF500Ms and they are pretty spectacular with an Ayon CD5S as a tube preamp, in a 4x3m study.

They didn't fare particularly well in the larger media room tho. Even with subs. Compared to the larger Thiel CS3.7s.

I've only heard these at the showroom. A tad bright and lacking low end, for my taste. However, they may not have been broken in, and there was no sub matched with them.

Am very curious what you find.

Congrats on a great selection. The LS50 really impressed when I heard them at CES. IMHO, they perform well beyond their price point. I agree they are not in the the same league as the Thiel 3.7 nor are they meant to. The Thiel 3.7s retail for almost 10X the LS50 price. Enjoy and let us know what you think.

I'm not suggesting that the price differential is not present

Merely to temper the expectations.

The LS50 is a beautiful sounding speaker. It doesn't sound bright or harsh to me and the bass is amazingly good from such a small speaker.

Hmmmm. Next time I'm in this particular dealer, I'll make it a point to have another listen. That should be sometime soon, too. I'll bring my own tunes and have another listen.
