Default It’s not a dress rehearsal ... tell your getting out of the rat race story

What’s your leaving your old life, rat race behind experience?

David, Congratulations on jumping along side the ‘wheel’. My story is fairly simple. Financial advisors said it was okay and my work situation changed to a point that it became a better option. I took door #1 and have never looked back. I now have no miles on United and very happy about that (although keep my Star Alliance Gold level. One benefit that keeps giving after sitting on airplanes for too many miles.).

Moved to SC and have lowered my Golf Index to 7.3.

In 2016 I kicked my 40 year Fortune 50 corporate career to the curb, moved to Colorado and started a consulting business.

This year I’ve already skied 45 days, and visited Costa Rica for a few weeks. Last fall I visited Peru and trekked to Chochiquirao.

Good times!

I found myself feeling ill every Sunday evening thinking of going to work Monday morning. After many conversations with my wife I decided to retire and actually retired earlier than we had planned. Aside from the stress I found it increasingly difficult to perform my duties due to worsening eye sight and loss of dexterity (fingers/hands). After a few months of retirement Colleen told me I was a new person. Best decision I've made never looked back. Happy Trails!!!!!

Well, I kinda retired. I left the auto dealership which I was junior partner 5 years ago and instead of retiring thought I might make a transition to the church administrator position at the church my father pastored for 16 years. I thought it would be a good deal for them, and semi-retirement for me. It certainly has been less stressful, but I plan to retire this coming February as I have had enough. The church was built in 1859, is magnificent and the restoration should be completed this year. I told them I would give them 3 years and will end up giving them all most 6 years. I am very much looking forward to February 2020!
Regards,
Jim

I retired to Emeritus Professor almost 4years ago but, until recently, taught and lectured as several universities in NYC. I was really enjoying my retirement but gradually realized that these ancillary duties had become impediments to a full freedom for me and my wife. I gave my last lecture (I promise) this past Friday. Now nothing stands in the way of enjoyment. Shoulda/coulda done it sooner.

I took an early retirement (57) in 2016 after a 25 year career with the same company and 31 years in the corporate world. The last 2 years were challenging and after many years of rolling with changes I had just had enough. If I wasn't sitting in a meeting, sitting on a plane, or sitting on a conference call I was basically in bed asleep because that was most of the time spent during the day.

I am in better shape both mentally and physically, spending quality time with family, traveling some but not much since I did that so much for years. Actually I would not mind working again if I could do something I love and not get back into the grind! Just in case I want to buy more toys!

So glad to read nobody has been bored or idle or anything. Just sheer joy, activities and exploration every day instead!
