Am I likely to notice any difference between Sigma Clock 50 and Mexcel 7N-DA6100mk3? The Sigma is slightly more expensive than the Mexcel I've recently invested in, so there would need to be an advantage to justify spending another $2k on a clock cable.

Yes, you will notice a rather large improvement (I was really quite surprised)

The Mexcel is a very fine cable...given the SIGMA CLOCK50s beat my 2 Esoteric-Mexcel 8N-A2000 cables in a few categories I NEVER expected any cable to come along and be capable of, I would say yes, the SIGMAS are worth the upgrade.

Doh....I was afraid you might say that. It surprises me that Esoteric discontinued Mexcel 50 ohm digital cable and now only make 75 ohm digital, given end user findings such as those written about here.

My cable radar is also tuned to Crystal Cable digital BNC, ultra diamond series or better. Has anybody tried this cable in clocking application?

As an aside, my home and contents insurance is due for renewal. Not many options open to me for getting competitive quotes, virtually every insurance underwriter won't insure me. They are so spaced out that the replacement value of my stereo system alone is worth more than the house!!

If you are connecting a 50-ohm clock output to a 50-ohm clock input it is vastly superior to utilize a true 50-ohm cable. The 8N-A2000 from Esoteric-Mexcel is discontinued and counterfeits on the used market are a definite risk. Best to focus (for 50-ohm) on only those vendors that will test and state certification of a true 50-ohm cable and connector scheme. Shunyata Alpha and SIGMA CLOCK50s are one of the few out there. There are others; if you are interested ping me though I will say I've tried many and none approach the latest Shunyata offerings. Evolution Acoustics makes a great 50-ohm BNC cable for connection between various Dartzeel components that utilize this unique connection scheme for non-clocking purposes; I've heard it's extremely good however the $6K price point was a non-starter for me.

For 75-ohm connections, the list of choices is larger; Shunyata, Nordost, Mexcel, WW, Esoteric-Mexcel, Acrolink, Analysis Plus and others. The ones I've mentioned I know first hand have been specifically tested for clocking versus general S/PDIF uses.

I have tried Crystal Cable’s Best digital BNC cable, and was disappointed. They are not ready for prime time IMHO.

Have you compared this to other units? I have the top dollar one from about 8 years back and I am curious how much sonic difference an improvement in the clock itself would make. The addition of the clock is huge, but I work with Rubidium oscillators in the timing and LO frequencies of my radar, and changes in brands has made little difference. Also, when you do this, are you comparing BNC to the Acrolink cables Esoteric sells (I have them), or perhaps WireWorld or something similar? On my next trip home, I am eager to send my clock out here to work with my new K-03. In the meantime, I may "borrow" one of our Truetime GPS units and see if I can get the Rubidium clock to work with it.

Bob... I own every model Esoteric Clock they currently make. I can say with certainty, as you go up the financial ladder the Audio performance increases as well.

That being said, you will need a system capable of resolving the difference, and ears that can discern the improvement.

Interesting observation. Crystal Cable best digital BNC would be significantly more expensive than Shunyata Sigma. CC do make good analog IC and speaker cables, which I own, however I have never tried any of their digital cables.
