There are incredibly smooth and go loud effortlessly. They are a little reserved sounding currently. That will be effected by 3 things. They are brand new, I am running them SE and my cj pre amp has zero grain and is a little laid back.

I have cd on repeat on a low volume when not listening, so hopefully later this week they will open up a bit more. They should be around 100 hours by then.

I will never listen to the mono momentums as I cannot afford them. The stereo will be a stretch but very keen to try them. Again, they will be as new so not run in. Philip, I hope you are right in them being a turbo charge MX-R.

I just wonder whether they can drive and control my Maxx3's at LOUD volumes. Lower volumes will not be a problem.

Cheers

Shane, the KX-R is your answer. The MX-R can sound a bit too laid back and uncharacteristically tooobe like for a SS amp when partnered with certain preamps. The KX-R is the equalizing force here. To hear the MX-R/KX-R with modern Wilsons is to fall in love (with a mere mortal)...

To hear the D'Agostino amps with Wilsons partnered with the right preamp is to have fallen in love with a Goddess who hands you a flask filled with water of eternal life, whisks you away in her chariot into the clouds and then makes love to you on top of a fluffy white cloud for a week straight.

Serge.......I thought Stereophile's Wes Phillips was the king of waxing lyrical, but I think you have him beat here! .......I think Mr. D'Agostino should post this on his website .......Philip

I will drop off the MX-R's tomorrow and pick up the Momentum Stereo amp.

Can't say the MX-R's did it for me in my system. Smooth, nice sounding, reasonably tight bass but lacked drive, life and upper air extension compared to my tube monoblocks.

cheers

Shane,

Very curious as to what you think about the Momentum amp when you get some time on it.

Joe / Serge, the Momentum Stereo arrived last Saturday when I picked up the MX-R's. The owner offered me to take the unopened box home, but I had allready lugged the MX-R's into the car and I would have had to drive to the warehouse. I was not going to lug them out again and I wanted to listen to the Ayre amps.

They have been running it this week, so I guess it may have 25 hours on it? Interestly the guy at the shop said for the first few hours it has no bass very unlike Krell - I would have to guess that would be initial run in.

I will run it 24/7 on low volume CD repeat for the following 100 hours and then listen a bit more critically.

As always, YMMV as it will be hooked up with a SE pre amp - the amps should be able to show their overall characteristics regadless.

I'm almost afraid to ask the price down there!

Hope your home demo goes well Shane!

I'll ask that question if I like the amp Howie.

It will no doubt be more expensive than the US,HK and Sing but no doubt cheaper than the UK and France
