Default Mc501 or Mc452 to amati futura?

What amp is suggested to drive Amati futura, Mc501 or Mc452?

I do not have the opportunity to listen to them but will have to buy unheard.

Both would be fine and plenty of power. The mono amp has maybe better separation , but the power and reserve and newer quad based 452 imOp would sound better over all.

But the 601 mono block would be better yet if you can afford that option. But 452 would be great or a great used price on a 501 too

I have Amati Futura's with MC-601 mono blocks but I also used to have MC-501's powering Amati Anniversario's. So I cant give you a the exact comparison you are looking for, I am familiar with the gear you are asking about..

The newer McIntosh amps (MC-452 and MC-601) have a different sound vs. the MC-501 monoblocks. If I had to describe it, I would say the MC-452 and MC-601 are warmer sounding vs. the MC-501. The Futura is already what I would consider a brighter/warmer sound so you may not need or want to add additional warmth. The Futura's are power hungry on the bottom end too, so you really should try to get as much power to them as you can afford.

So, if this were me I would go with either the MC-501 or the MC-601 and skip the MC-452 entirely as having the additional sustained power output (to me) would be the most beneficial.

Th futura is a dark sounding speaker and the 501s really enhance that. I had this exact combination. Good for classical and jazz, not great for music that requires a little bite. I would go with one of the newer Mc amps or skip mcintosh altogether.

Wish I could recommend one. I ended up selling the futuras and mc amps at the same time. I imagine a more neutral amp would be a good start. I loved Arc gear with SF at the dealers

I owned 3 different pairs of Futura’s. I powered them all with Bryston Monoblocks.
