Default Considering floorstanders for my c2500/mc402 setup...

and yes, impossible to ask for thoughts but...I'm bored specifically looking at Bowers 704 S2s or Sonus Faber Venere Signatures. I can't listen to the Veneres as they are no longer in production but found a pair at a great price. My room is 9x25, part of the problem. Currently have Bowers CM6 S2s, on stands with two REL subs - so bass is obviously not an issue at all. Wondering if I'm going to get any real benefit from floorstanders. Bass will not be improved most likely but wondering about midrange? Or if I should just be happy with what I have, it does sound good...TIA

If B&W is your cup of tea, 804s are worth a listen. If you're bored, take your time and find something that really grabs you. Or stick with what you have if not.

In that room I would stick with bookshelf speakers and a sub but just go up the food chain. Look at the Aerial 5T's that Lars had for sale for an easy upgrade in the same price range you are looking. Other than that there are plenty of bookshelf models for sale on A'Gon and US Audiomart.

IMHO floor standing speakers often provide an added warmth and presence in the midbass as well as the deeper bass. Often the sacrifice is more difficulty in hiding the speaker acoustically.
In your situation you would be able to crossover your subs at a lower frequency and possibly reduce their volume. They could overload your room and reduce definition however.
YMMV.

A thought ... consider and audition Wilson Sabrinas. You have not described your listening preferences, etc., but Sabrinas are likely to yield a more involving midrange and will mate well with your McIntosh electronics. Assumed in this suggestion is that you would mothball the subs.

YMMV.

Bob

Thanks again everyone. Really don't want to ditch the subs but then again, if they aren't going to add anything with floor standers, they are superfluous. I'll check out the Wilsons. And I probably should have led with the fact that I'm looking in the $3000/pair range As for music taste - generally jazz, soft rock, rock and soul. No heavy metal, rap, hip hop.

Sabrinas are a bit too pricey, if your limit is $3k. Sorry about that.
