Default 2TB enough?

I am going to dive into the server world with an Aurender (welcome to 2017 Matt, you'll like it here )

I am doing this on a tight budget, perhaps even finding a used N100 from someone on the upgrade path.

If I do end up buying new - wondering if the 2TB base model will be sufficient for my needs. I'd have to count, but I have probably about 800 CD's to upload. I would do this in the 'best' file format (still need to find out what that is). I buy about 2 albums a month, so figure I'm adding 25 new per year.

Can someone translate what 1,000 CD's would require in terms of storage?

Frankly, a big draw of the Aurender is getting into Tidal, so my library may not even expand as quickly going forward.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Cheers

Matt

I have about 1600 cds and downloads, and about 20% of them are hi-res, i.e. 24/48 or higher, and the collection takes just under 1tb. 2tb should be enough to give you room for growth.

approx 750 MB per CD with no compression so 0.75TB for 1000 CD's. That's worst case assuming 80 minute CD's, but good for planning purposes. The actual space used will be somewhat lower since most CD's are shorter than 80 minutes.

Matt.......The Aurender N100H is a great way to embrace current music server technology. The 2TB hard drive should last you a long time. My Aurender N10 has two 2TB hard drives. Right now I am only using one of them and have over 1500 CD's saved as FLAC files and 82 high-res albums saved as 24/96 and 24/192 FLAC files. I have only used 523GB of the 1740GB available for files on the 2TB hard drive. From this information you can see that your 800 CD library will use about 250GB in FLAC format. Hope this helps.

The Aurender N100H is a great way to go and the Aurender Conductor App is perfect and intuitive to use on an iPad, or even an Android phone. Hope this helps you out.

Dan, I have not been keeping up with "audio times" as of late so the Aurender concept is new to me. Does the N100H have a DAC?

a little over 3,000 CD's would fit on 2TB.. Antonmb nailed it in the second reply.

Serge.......No, there is no DAC in the Aurender N100H, N100C, N10, or W20. There is a dual AKM DAC in the Aurender A10.
