Hello,

I bought an HDPLEX H5 case with the 100 watt linear power supply with 250W HiFi DC-ATX
(They currently offer at 200 watt linear power supply with 300W HiFi DC-ATX ).

ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Gene mATX LGA1151
INTEL I5-6600 3.30GHZ Skylake
G.SKILL Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4-2400
SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 250GB - for the boot drive
SAMSUNG 850 EVO 500GB for the music files.
HQplayer software

To connect from the server to my K-03x
2- High end silver USB from Audio Sensibility in Canada
IFI micro – iUSB3.0

Cost in total was a bit less that the retail of the BDP-2.

I turn off all up sampling and filters on my K-03x. With hqplayer you have
a choice of about 20 different filters and a huge selection of up sampling to PCM or DSD.
You can also use Roon as the front end with hqplayer doing the up sampling.

I find I have much more control and tweaking options with this setup.

I then built a dedicated music server running Hqplayer, into the K-03x via Usb, and it sounded much better.

Haven't had the opportunity to test the BDA-3.
I had a BDP2 also. I didn't build my own music server(I wish I could), but I recently changed to a new music server. I still can't believe how much I prefer the new music server compared to the BDP2!

  • When using the K-05X asa USB DAC, does the display indicate the sample rate for DSD eg 2.8 or 64, 5.6 or 128 etc?
  • Will the display indicate whether the input is Native DSD or DoP?
  • Is the USB connection Galvanically isolated? - My dealer indicated the USB is on a separate board so this looks promising
  • My dealer only has the K-05 on display not the X version. The front tray Cap (with Esoteric VRDS Neo printed on it has changed from the K0-5 to the K0-5x) Could you confirm the cap part is made out of Aluminum rather than plastic on the K-05x?
I recommend you invest $25 to become an AA member so you can contact Ivan with all your questions. He's an Esoteric dealer and will hook you up.

Very interesting questions. If you do get an answer, please do share them with us.

Or you could ask all the AA members and get the opinion from listeners with similar experiences !
