I'd rather wait for MT10 to hit the used market.

They are beautiful, another reason to dim the light

For now, I am going to use. Denon 100 year for mc and Marantntz TT 15-S1 for MM

I said I am going because I am still waiting for my C 2300
Here comes an audiophile to be

Spoke with Chuck Hinton, last week, and when asked about the MT5, he stated that they were being assembled and should be available next month.

John.......Just looked this morning. The MT5 is not shown on the McIntosh website yet. When this turntable is finally available it will be interesting to see how the sales figures go. I'm sure McIntosh is hoping sales of the MT5 will surpass the MT10. Even though the MT10 is well liked by owners, its world sales figures were very low.

I like the looks of the MT5 and hope it is a good performer and successful in the marketplace.

I still do not have a feel for what cartridge they are planning on putting on the MT5. The MT10 uses an entry level cartridge and it accounts for 25% of the MT10 cost.

Used MT10s are available, but not many.... most owners seem to keep them... AudioClassics never has them, but, it is good to get yourself on a callback list with them... That MT10 on ebay went high.. I bought mine from a private party with only 1 hour on the cartridge for 20% cheaper than that price... which basically puts it into a new VPI C3 and new MT5 price range... At that price, it is one heck of a piece of hardware, and when you use it and listen to it, you will know that you did not overpay, it sounds way good.. You have to keep looking, it took me about 3 months to find mine..

Bill - believe you are misstating this. The only 'entry level' part of the Talismann is that it is Clearaudio's entry-level MC cartridge. Am not sure that most folks would consider a $1500 cartridge to be 'entry level' (with the possible exception of Ivan ). Would think a $300-400 MC cartridge would be more of an 'entry level'. While there are certainly better/more expensive cartridges out there, one needs to consider the rest of the their vinyl rig to insure they are not wasting money with a more expensive cartridge (better IC, better phono preamp, etc.)

Thanks Glen: I should have been more clear. It is the "entry" level for the V2 generation.

See description below.

Clearaudio Talisman V2 Moving Coil Cartridge

The Talismann V2 Gold provides the entry level into the latest "V2" - Generation of clearaudio MC cartridges providing outstanding performance for less than 1,000 Euros.

A major improvement over its predecessor is the use of a patented configuration of 8 magnets, which is characterized by the extremely wide dynamic range.

In common with all the MC cartridges in the new "V2"- Generation, the Talismann V2 Gold is fitted with a Micro HD stylus (HD=High Definition) and a precision boron cantilever.

The Micro HD diamond achieves a perfect contact with the record groove walls and by virtue of its extremely low mass, is able to faithfully reproduce even the most fine musical details.

The body of the new Talismann V2 Gold is made out of hand-polished ebony with metal top plate and an internal metal-alloy resonance-suppressing block. The name "Gold" refers to the MC generator of the clearaudio Talismann V2 Gold, in which the coils are manufactured from pure 24-karat gold wire.

The combination of these unique features sets the clearaudio Talismann V2 Gold apart from other MC cartridges in this price range.

Technical specifications:
Cartridge weight: 10.8 g
Stylus shape: Micro HD
Cantilever: Boron
Coil assembly: Fully symmetrical around pivot point
Coil material: 24-Karat gold
Compliance: 15/15 µ/mN
Recommended tracking force: 2.8 g
Crosstalk: > 30 dB
Channel difference: < 0.5 dB
Output voltage: 0.7 mV at 5 cm/s
Cartridge Impedance: 30 Ohms
