Thanks for all the replies everyone. I think I'll look into that dragonfly piece that was mentioned. I'd like to keep the price pretty low as I do plan on getting the DAC made by Rotel and a Mac Mini one day. So I'd rather spend the money on that vs invest to much into this iPhone idea.

Listen to the Mojo. The quality of the DAC might surprise you. Even compared to a larger unit.

But if you just wanted a digital signal, I've been using a cheap Marantz CD6006 with a front USB input. I plug the USB charge cable between the CD player and the iPhone. And an optical or coax cable from the CD player to my standalone DAC.

I have the Dragonfly Rec. It is an outstanding DAC for $200. The Mojo is also outstanding but is a bit more $ and a bit bulky when traveling (iPhone + Mojo + cables + headphones can be a bit of a pain on a plane).

If you can find one, the iPure 20 is a great, cheap, attractive and simple solution.
They go on eBay and company every-now-and-then...
