These do look good and would be real easy to work with. Have never seen them before. The only downside I could see is that they may not raise the cable off the ground far enough to allow you to run your speaker cables over another cable such as a power cable.
None the less a very nice looking product. Is this something you are considering adding to the vast array of products you already carry? Last edited by Alki; 10-21-2015 at 12:27 AM. |

Ivan.......I think cable elevators can have a positive effect but it depends on the floor. If your home has a slab on grade poured concrete floor with or without wire mesh in the concrete, it is a huge ground plane and can interact inductively with electrical signals in cables that lay on the floor (carpeted, tiled, or wood covered). Raising cables away from the ground plane reduces and/or eliminates this interaction. If the floor in your home is elevated from the surface of the ground on footers and wood joists, or a second story elevation, then there is little to no interaction between ground and any electrical induction from a cable. In those circumstances I believe cable elevators are unnecessary.
I can demonstrate this with one of my electric guitars. If I have my Fender Strat plugged into an amplifier upstairs where the floors are wood on joists, I can lay the guitar on the carpet with the amplifier energized without any induced noise coming from the amplifier. It remains silent. On the other hand if I am down in the studio where the floor is a poured concrete slab on grade with wire mesh in the concrete and covered with a foam pad and carpet, I can not lay my Fender Strat on the floor while plugged into an energized amplifier without a strong hum coming from the guitar amplifier's speaker. As soon as I bring the guitar away from the floor by four or five inches the hum disappears. Laying the guitar back on the floor causes the hum to immediately return. The coils in the guitar pickups induce a magnetic field around their surface that interacts with the grounded floor. This is where I believe cable elevators can produce positive results. I am not concerned with my line level interconnects because of their low voltage but my speaker cables would probably benefit from being raised from the floor's surface in the studio system. I think I need to consider using cable elevators to lift my Silver Eclipse speaker cables off the floor in the studio. I have always admired the porcelain cable elevators.

I'm in the market for some cable elevators, so I appreciate you all posting those photos.

Aside from what Dan pointed out, I believe static electricity on carpeted floors is another good reason to get cables off the floor.

I use the ceramic insulator type cable lifts. My carpet is nylon over padding and concrete. In the winter, there is static electricity in my room and I frequently 'shock' myself walking across it depending on my footwear. I figure the insulators were cheap solutions to that issue.

I have no personal experience with them but for bling factor alone some look really nice. Dan and Ivan make some good points though. Some cable companies actually include elevators with their cables.

Using these ceramic units right now but have been thinking about making something custom. Maybe wood or plexiglass.

Don.......I like the color of your isolators. Where did you purchase them?

I'm a believer, I just use the cheap Shunyata versions.
