Default Is there a PMC distribution problem ?

Hello PMC fans,

I'm asking this because of multiple reasons.
1/ many people on AA said that they would love to hear PMC speakers but cannot because no dealer around has them.
2/ No dealer in Paris had a pair of OB1 or EB1i speakers on demo when I wanted to listen to them. Paris is not very far from GB. Ok, France is an "income tax" country where around 80 % of your earnings go back to the "State" and hence we're not a big HiFi market I suppose, but still, I'm talking of a city and its suburbs of 15 million people at least !
I had to call the importer for him to bring a pair of EB1 to a dealer in Paris and they were not even the i ones ( he did not mention that....)
3/ the french importer for the HiFi line just changed.
He called me back because I want to listen to a pair of IB2i.
He does not know when and if he will get one and will call me back.

Even if I like the IB2i and want to buy them, I will have to sell the EB1i before and this will be very difficult because there are almost no dealer of PMC in France and hence, nobody knows this brand !

What are your opinions on this subject ?

Could you advertise your EB1i's in the UK?

Then would it be possible for you to drive to the UK to demo and purchase some IB2i's? Possibly even arrange a trade-in with a dealer before your trip.

I live in Ireland and have a similar problem of lack of dealers and choice.
I buy my hifi from the UK and America these days.

Cheers
Matt

The French and English have been fighting since the time of Henry II of and Philip II. Now we have the 'PMC Speaker War'. But, seriously, if were me, I'd find a dealer in London with the EB2i, then hop on the chunnel train and head over to give the a listen. This isn't just a UK/France/Europe problem. We have fewer and fewer bricks & mortar high-end stereo shops in NA, as well. My nearest PMC dealer is about 2-hours away and would only agree to pull out the set of TB2i speakers and set them up for a listen if I could assure him that I was a 'serious buyer'. While the internet is the biggest problem for these shops, attitudes like his (am guessing he is not overwhelmed with customers in this economy) are the reason that I simply purchased off the internet based on feedback here (and other internets sites). Plus, having them delivered to my house is much easier then schleping (is that 1 e or two?) to a dealer.

Matt,
That's not a bad idea but only if I truly fall in love with the IB2i and can find a PMC dealer in UK that will make a trade in of the EB1i.
Thanks !

Jerome... If you were only closer I would try and talk my wife into trading up to your EB1i's.

Yes I agree that the problem is not with France only. That is why I mentioned USA too.

I can only speak for the USA. But given the seriousness of a prospective consumers interest and willingness to follow through, we can most definitely set up personal demos of any model from the PB1i up... The only way to really show what an MB2xbdi can do is to rub their nose in it.

Surely someone within any given country is willing to accommodate a demo on an EB1... The only reason I can think of for the unwillingness is the fact that 9/10 queries to dealers are one line emails asking for 50% off of any retail price.

PMC is a niche brand in a niche market. When dealers are only hot on what is hyped by TAS and Stereophile, it makes expansion an extremely difficult task. I'm sorry to hear that true interest is not served by those who I'm assuming once had a passion for HIFI... Now it seems like a chore for some.
