Since the online software update service stopped a few months ago. It is best to clone your old drive to a newer drive instead of ISO'ed the system using the Golden disc. The reason why, your old hard drive probably got the software update already, which should be version 2.0.7.1. I believe the ISO contains older software than this version. So after you ISO'ed the system, it will be stuck with that old software forever... unless someone finds a way to update the software to version 2.7.0.1 without the online update service. By the way, EASUS software has a free version that can do the disk cloning very well.

Can you clarify what version 2.0.7.1 and 2.7.0.1 are? thanks.

Bill,

I know we have discussed this before - but can you specifically outline the steps and equipment that you use to 'clone' your HD... and have you tried to close and then use a SSD? I have heard that with cloning, there are sometimes issues with using a drive that is not exactly the same in size (even if off by a few megs)

thanks,

-michael

Michael, Sorry for the delayed response. I am very busy these days.
Also these steps aren't complete, but some other smart member will chime in.

This is the "gist" of things..

1. buy 1:1 HDD PortaCruiser Duplicator Part 350108
2. buy accessory cables
3. buy an IDE hard drive (search here for the right one)
4. pull the MS750 hard drive (read forum post here - for detailed steps)
5. plug new IDE hard drive (target) and old (source) hard drive to the duplicator (1)
6. use the onscreen instructions and copy (clone) the drive.
7. install NEW IDE hard drive in the MS750.
8. Reboot the MS750.
9. Give give yourself a pat on the back once your library loads

Now, to use a SATA drive, I have a 2.5" 1TB WD RED coming in, and a IDE to SATA adaptor. I will do a better post when those comes in. If that is successful, I may attempt the installation of a SSD. I see no point, the interface is snappy enough for me. If size is a concern, I might have another secret trick to share.

I will keep all abreast of what I know so we can continue to enjoy our Macintosh MS300 and MS750 Music Servers. Further, I still "light a candle in the window" hoping that the update servers, Gracenote and iRadio features are restored.
