My thoughts/opinion about the new music being released today, only one artist comes to mind... Slim Pickins!

You have to hunt for good music, but it's out there.

Check out these two young woman, both very good in my opinion.

I like to go to CD Baby and listen to new artists.
CDBaby : Discover Music

I found Corrinne May there a few years ago.

Songwriting, naturally, has evolved, and opinions surrounding the validity of new music, naturally, tend to evove in parallel with prevailing trends and directions as time goes on. With age, comes less willingness (at times; your mileage may vary) to go with the flow of what prevails. If I had to make a direct comparison between now and a time when I might have been more impressionable than I am today, I would say, without hesitation, that songwriting, and the resulting product, is much less engaging now than it once was. I don't forsee much potential for that to change, because, although the day of the singer/songwriter is somewhat commercially dead, I'm just glad that, as a songwriter myself, I can still appreciate a well-written song story as I enjoy other literate domains. That said, today's music has a ways to go to return to it's former glory. Thank God we still have recordings and our individual and collective memories to bolster our appreciation. More later on why I think music has lost its conceptual continuity, as Frank once said.

MC352-good idea, focusing on one genre. I can never bring myself to do it and I know it has to hamper my stretching all the way out as I could/should. When I do spend time on new music quests, I always come back to the tried-and-true favorites. I MUST start spending more time aclimating myself to unfamiliar styles to broaden my musical horizons. I MUST...
