Default Duty on C2300 bought from Canada?

I just bought a C2300 that was located in Canada. I was surprised when I got the shipping information from UPS that I had to pay duty on it but didn't state a number. I thought if it was a US built product no duty would have to be paid. I tried to find some information online but I got nothing. I thought somebody on here might know so here I am. UPS also called me today and needed more information and I guess the trigger was the cost being > $2500. Can anybody shed any light on this. Thanks...

There should be no duty since the product is made in North America. If you are purchasing from a dealer you may be able to recover some or all of any GST taxes you paid if you bring it back across the border.

That's a lot to look at.
A few years back I purchased speakers in Windsor and brought them back across the border to the US. Stopped and received the GST back in Canada. If they had been US or Canadian made speakers I would not have had to pay duty to US Customs.

The program you are referring to no longer exists, getting out of paying the HST is much harder now for foreign guests to Canada.

One time I visited one of the McItosh dealership in Vancouver and I was looking at the XR100 speakers, the sales man told me if you buy the xr100 from us, we will ship it to CA tax free and no S&H charge.

I called UPS and talked to a different person and got an answer. The fee (40.10) was a brokerage fee for UPS getting my package through customs due to the cost. I've had packages get hung up in customs before so I'm thinking it was worth the extra 40 bucks. It was just shipped on Tuesday and I pick it up tomorrow.
