Hi Junker,

The furniture is home made, the wood is bubinga hardwood, very dense and heavy.
Only the wood is weighing over 100kg's.

Only the front baffle is from aluminium, the rest of the speaker is birch plywood.

Still love to listen to dire straits, somehow I get never tired of this music.

The ref250's got their signal through an AR pre amplifier, but I cannot recall the number.

Dire straits here too, i have them only on analog .....

Found an old system pic of my V3s ('08-'09), thought I'd share here..

DSC03515.jpg

Meant to be interim speakers coming from *Mini2 ('06-'08, which I enjoyed thoroughly) with intent to upgrade to the M6/M5 then.
But plan was put off due to limitation/difficult access to my 2nd floor listening room (adjoining the bedroom, up via narrow twisting stairs).
*Mini2 replaced SF Stradivari which in turn replaced a MG20.1 prior (lived for about 2-3yrs with each).

Unless prepared to demolish one of side wall and crating speakers up through it from outdoor, in my case, speaker choice will be severely limited to modular designs, or a one-piece the size/weight of Q3/S5 would be max to be heaved up that stairs!

Consider me lucky for not doing so, as in span of just 2-3yrs it was superseded by the now much superior Q7! But I do feel for the few friends who bought them though..

Cheers!

Hi bvdiman,

Great picture, how did the V3 match with the Soulution amplifier.

Earlier this week I borrowed a Spectral 30SS series 2 with DMA 260, it sounded great with the V3's, definitly a step up from my E-560. But few things bothered me, pre amplifier display not working when cold, loud (very) plop in the speakers when powering up the DMA-260, and the way the speaker terminals are placed, almost impossible to connect my NBS speaker cables in a proper way. Also the amplifier is so deep, would have to replace my furniture. Probably I will stay with Accuphase, probably an A-65/46.

I did install a new separate power group to my system, what a difference, should have done that years before. Also added a new distribution block, beautifully made, thick aluminium plates with a solid piece of wood in between, the furutech outlets only touch the wood.

Hi Olaf,
V3s driven Soulution was sounding swell when things got dialed-in right, pretty good match I must say.

To maximize on Spectrals you need MITs, hence change of cabling as well besides rack. So yes, I too think that safer bet would be to give Accuphase separates a go first to see how it fits in before doing one major overhaul there. Should be no less superb I bet, albeit in slightly different ways..

Hi David,

The 3 Ohm minimum impedance is not a problem for the E-560, even stable to 1 Ohm for music signal.

All the Accuphase power amps will be able to handle the 3 Ohm load.
Just wondering how much more heat a A-65 will generate, in summer the E-560 is just bearable.

The Spectral gear is not my cup of tea, although sounding great (even with non MIT cables)

I might stay with the E-560 after all, the new separate power supply group and new distribution block has 75hrs of playing now, soundstage has become remarkebly wider, deeper and higher. The low frequencies come with more pressure, (just playing a CD from the Nits (Malpensa, Minus Second Floor) I feel the vibration in my listening chair, never had that before. Also I can play louder then before. Instruments and voices are very stable positioned and have more air around them.

By far this has been the best upgrade (also cost wise) I have done for a few years. The apartment building I live is quite new, I didn't anticipate that a separate group would improve this much. (using a shielded groundcable with 3x4mm)

Hi Bvdiman,

The MIT cables are used to act like a low pass filter, I read that a normal cable can start oscilating with very high frequencies were the Spectral gear is capable off (and damage the tweeters, or burn the amplifier). But as I am only using a CD player as a source the high frequencies should not exceed the low 20Khz mark. (I don't know if a distorted signal can also cause the problems)

The more I think of it, why did Spectral not include this in the amplifier and leave the customer a free choice of cables, I know they have a bit of a different vision then other manufacturers. (by the way, not trying to bash Spectral, have heared them in beautifull sounding set ups)

Here is a recent photo. Not the greatest quality image, though.
