If you still had the 911T, I would've bummed a ride with you to our next meet!

I would much rather listen to the engine in a 911 T! Screw the stereo, get the exhaust piped into the cabin.

Not changing cars.

I was at the launch of the 800 D3s and had the opportunity to hear the BWs in the current BMW 7 series but missed it.

In case you didn't know, both the B&W and ML systems are Harman products. Harman bought the rights to brand B&W a year or two ago. Along with B&O. OEM systems are BIG business, and its the reason why Harman was brought by Samsung ( still trying to assimilate that one).

Oh is it? I didn't know this.

I think the B&Ws should probably sound great too.

Not quite correct. Harman has a automotive division that assists with the engineering of OEM systems (electronics, fixtures for mounting drivers, etc.) and owns a number of brands (Mark Levinson, JBL.) We work with them in creating Bowers & Wilkins systems for our automotive partners, but Harman (now owned by Samsung) doesn't own any part of Bowers & Wilkins.

My apologies, I thought B&W sold the OEM branding rights to Harman just like B&O. B&O sold their automotive division to Harman.

A smart move to partner with a concern that has the majority market share (yes, even bigger than Bose) in the OEM audio business. If one is pitching their brand to an automaker, one wants the Harman rep sitting right next to them.

Ok, i've had my new BMW for a week now. I compared the same CD in my wife's ML in her lexus to the B and W diamond system in my BMW (that's a tongue twister!).

ML is clearly better. Much quieter system with a lower noise floor, the bass is very articulate and fast. Midrange was crystal clear and spacious. I have the 802D3's as well, and the diamond tweeter in the car audio system is clearly not what it is on the loudspeaker. I'm a little disappointed to be quite honest.

It was a 3500 dollar upgrade to put the B and W into my car, and I certainly regret it. Wish ML would come to B and W. Way better sounding.

Thanks for your sharing.

I am not surprised at your comments. The MLs are superb. What model is your Lex? I feel the IS is better than the RX though the latter has more speakers.

I wonder if the diamonds in the car are the latest iteration of the d3s.
