Default Office system

I work for a mid size, ~600 employees company, and have my own private office room. I don't own the company. I just manage it.

I listen to music while not in meetings but until now only through headphones.

I'm starting to think about buying and installing a speaker system in my office room, but I recognize it's not normal and may call some attention. Also, my room in not sound proof and will leak sound outside.

As any one else done this? If yes, what system have you deployed? How was the reaction of colleagues /staff?

I use a Meridian F80 at work. Does the job perfectly!

I is use the McIntosh MXA60. Pricey, but superb sound quality at low level listening. Great tuner section, SACD/CD and inputs for SonoS or other streamer. I love it for the office.

Apogee Duet 2 & a pair of Focal CSM40 powered studio monitors should do a great job. You can still use headphones if you chose through the Duet 2. Get a Mac Mini or MacBook Air as a music server and you're set.

I'm thinking the same thing, and there are some excellent suggestions so far! Keep them coming. :^)

I think the OP is asking whether playing tunes in your office is an acceptable practice, and if yes, are there any limitations to when/how you play.

I have a small setup in my office, but I do not use it unless it's after normal business hours or on the weekends. A few of the staff have radios that they play at very low levels or listen with earphones.

To the OP - I would be wary of setting up an office system to play during working hours given your initial post. Since it's not accepted practice, and since you apparantly have at least some supervisor responsibliites, you are risking setting an example to other employees that (1) you'll have difficulty controlling and (2) may not be acceptable to the owner(s)/senior management.

Another option would be to run it up the ladder and see what your boss thinks. Just my two cents...

I have gone a little over the edge with my office system over the last 3 years. I think most of my employees now accept that I am not normal I ended up moving my office into a rear conference room and somewhat soundproofing the room. This setup without the dual Rel T-5 subs actually is pretty unobrusive to the rest of my office with the door open. I listen in the nearfield, plus I have a pretty nice headphone stage if I were to choose to use it. I must say it makes work a much more enjoyable place to be. The speakers are Harbeth HL-P3ES2. The really nice feature of the Esoteric SA-50 is I have a SP/DIF input from my work computer running J River with 12,000 songs at my fingertips

I have an office system, but never play it during the typical business hours.
