D1100 as DAC and Headphone amp
I have loved my D100 in my main system for quite a few years.
In addition to the DAC, I use it as the exclusive Headphone amp (driving HD800) in my main system listening to red book CDs. I really like this combo and believe the D1100 would be an excellent replacement. For those who have purchased the D1100, do you use the headphone out and how do you like it? For approx the same amount of cash as the D1100, I could replace my D100 with a Bryston BDA3 and BHA1 headphone amp. Wondering if this would serve my needs better. In all fairness, I would miss the aesthetics of the D1100 matching my MA6600. Input is appreciated. |

I can't speak to the BDA3, but I owned the BHA1 for a while and it was a very competent and versatile headphone amp. I sold it a few years back when I moved on to another headphone amp and regretted selling it. The build quality is great, the list of features is extensive, and the warranty is unmatched. Of course it also sounds great (I owned a pair of HD800 at the time I owned this amp and can say I thought they paired well). I don't think you would be disappointed if you went in this direction.
