Default anyone been to Jiro's?

I'm still planning on going to Japan. My wife loves sushi/sashimi and anything Japanese.

So, anyone been to 3 star Michelin awardee (Sushi shop)? Is it really that good? I mean--- sushi is a sushi.. thats me tho, I dont cook.. hehehe

You'd eat it if there was a bottle of Gaja next to it...

From what I've been told, Jiro is VERY VERY good. Snobby but you have to know traditional high end Japanese sushi to understand (not quite sure I do)- $300 per person, w/o alcohol and he serves what he wants at his pace (which is very much faster than other high end sushi restaurants). You go there to "experience" it; not to have a culinary experience (i.e. French Laundry, Per Se, etc...). After your course(s), you pay with cash only and are not to dilly dally; that is, you are to leave!

Notwithstanding the above, I am looking forward to the experience before he turns it over to his son.

Interesting ... I watched the documentary about Jiro's just two nights ago. You wouldn't think that a 90 min documentary about sushi could be so engrossing. Apparently some of the customers travel from overseas to Japan just to eat a meal at Jiro's, it's so good. I look forward to reading about mdkim's experience there.
