Default Dark Horse Recording Studio, Nashville

I'm at a conference in Nashville this week, and this morning we had Robin Crow, owner of Dark Horse Recording Studios, as our guest speaker. He's a pretty good speaker with a fairly standard motivational message, but he intersperses his talk with guitar playing, and he's an excellent guitarist. The highlight of the day, however, was a trip to Franklin, TN, for a tour of his studios. It was quite a ways out in the country, fairly isolated, and in a beautiful setting. The studios are in a beautiful house he built with old beams and wood siding, and some gorgeous wood interiors with lots of well-placed and good-looking sound panels. He's recorded albums there for a number of well-known artists, most of them country, including Allison Kraus, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, and Neil Diamond. It was interesting to talk to one of his main recording engineers: they record in PCM 24/48, and master for both home listening and compressed for car audio. The engineer seemed a little less than an audiophile though - he said "nobody records in 24/192 yet." http://darkhorserecording.com/

Tony.......Thanks for the link. Beautiful facilities and location. Their recording engineer who made the comment "nobody records in 24/192 yet" might want to travel out of the hills of Tennessee to sit and chat with David Chesky.

Or to Scotland to visit Linn, or others as well. I think it may be true of Nashville though.
