Oh Canada!
I am on vacation in Montreal. I have noticed that for some items in stores the pricing is identical in "dollars" to USD so with the exchange rate, I am buying at a nice discount. Other products and merchandise adjust the prices so the price CAD reflects the exchange rate so there is no pricing benefit to buy here in Canada what I can get in the US.
In noticing this, it occurred to me some some of my favorite audio equipment brands are made in Canada. I won't mention any names here (Bryston). So, my question to you (or James), is... is the pricing of Canadian audio products (such as Bryston) in stores in Canada such that the CAD price is the same numerical amount in dollars as USD prices in the US? I did not come here thinking out buying audio equipment but nothing like an exchange rate bargain to wake up the "addiction". Thanks, Robert

if you get the opportunity and want a great steak try 'Queue de Cheval', I believe it's on Rene Levesques quest, about 4 blocks from the train station. One of the best !

You are correct about pricing in Canada. My friend from Portland Oregon have done quite a few comparisons with Vancouver vs Portland, Seattle and San Francisco. On many brands including some made in the US Vancouver is cheaper after the exchange factor.

Once you pay the provincial sales tax and GST, it will probably be a wash and then you will also potentially have to deal with duty when you return to the US.

Two things to keep in mind if you are going to do a comparison is that Alberta only has 5% GST (no provincial sales tax) and if item is manufactured in Canada (ie. Bryston) there should be no duty under NAFTA.
