I ran once .... and that was it (actually I ran a lot on various teams working out, etc., but I never ever enjoyed it). Bikes are great to be outside - I can't force myself to do a trainer for that very reason.

Yep, biking is IMO better then running especially with great weather in the Northwest!

I gave up road biking around 10 years ago. See Dan's post "You can't text and walk" for the reason.

Here is picture on the Missouri River a few minutes from home...

The coulees add a little challenge. There are some areas with some exposure and it is a little technical at times, but I frequently go for a ride that is around 8-10 miles total and most often see no one. Which is a blessing. Unless I take a significant fall. Then not so good. But it is beautiful.

Did you canoe the white cliffs out of Ft Benton?

Yep. We left from ft. Benton. I scratched my cornea on one of the early days, so I was miserable for the week, but it was a great trip. Then, went to the central Montana medical center for immediate relief on the eye. Then, I went to eddy's steak house, had a big grass fed steak and two gin and tonics and all was well.

Eddie's Supper Club has unfortunately closed. Grass fed beef and gin is good for what ailes a guy. Summers here in Montana are spectacular.

Come to think of it, fall and winter and spring are pretty darned good, also.

Spent half of summer in MT back in the early '60s (dating myself) working as a 'custom cutter' between sophomore and junior years in HS. We cut wheat on top of some very tall bluffs over-looking the mighty Mo' and took a cable-drawn ferry back and forth not far from Ft. Benton. Also cut wheat outside of Loma and Wolf Point. We stopped when the snow started falling on us at Wolf Point the last week of August. Was a wonderful summer. Love to visit and hunt, but too cold to live there.

Couldn't agree more about the hazards of riding on the road. Cars should have something to disable cell phones in cars. Only work for 911 calls.

What a great summer.

IMG_0023.JPGOn a much more mundane note, here are some beach cruisers from our place in Florida.
