My visit to the "ROOM"
Monday afternoon and my wife is safely back home in MD gives me the time to share my experience at Ivan's on Saturday.
After being frisked (kidding here) before entering the neighborhood and navigating all the twists and turns (forewarned by Dan) we arrived at Ivan and Donna's house. We had brought a small token of thanks but I was so stoked to get inside, my manners were forgotten and it remained in the car  Ivan greeted us and we chatted for a bit. The aquarium was enticing enough to want to for a swim until Ivan mentioned some of the fish bite! We were then invited into the "Room". There is nothing half baked in this room. From the signed movie posters (note the bullets and shells) to the strategically placed light controls just oozed thought and care. Ivan opened all the wonderfully carved cabinet doors and exposed the power of his system. I've never seen a a 1.2Kw live and was taken aback by the sheer size of them. Once he took the 2Kw's out of HT mode, the globes and meters lit up and again, I lost my ability to talk! I'm sure by this time Ivan must have thought I was a mute because I was so struck by the visual impact I was frankly speechless. I had 100 questions for him and was only able to force out a couple. Ivan started off with some good old 2 channel music. I was certainly concerned about the metal tweeters hurting my ears since I'm very sensitive to them. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the McIntosh tweeters did not irritate my ears until the spl was peaking at about 123db. Several different recordings revealed to me that this certainly was something magical. Average wattage appeared to be about 15 watts but Ivan did run it up and if I recall, maybe peaks of 150 watts on some recordings. It seemed to effortless and smooth it was spooky! Edgar Winter's Frankenstein absolutely took my breath away. The drum solo has such a dynamic presentation it almost hurt! Shania Twain in SACD 5.? seemed to be singing just to me and the realism almost made me want to get up and .......Let me control myself for a minute! Moving to DVD-A, A Phil Collins concert with him performing Suidio (spelling?) made both my wife and I want to get up and clap and dance it was that real to us. The one clip that impressed me the most is when Ivan put in a DVD-A with the Andretti's driving Indy cars with a camera attached to the car. The experience made me grab the arm rests and take deep breaths to keep up. Those huge Gotham's in the back hit like a sledge hammer when needed! Donna came into the room and rescued us from sensory overload! Thank you Donna! Not only for the rescue but the snacks and cold drinks. While taking a break, Ivan showed me the toys in the garage. I've never been that close to a car that cost more than my house! What a collection of toys this man has. Continued in part II
