Yippee

I finally have NO hum. It was not easy, but suffice to say the phono stage is as far away from the pre amp, turntable motors as physically possible and the power supply and head unit are as far apart as the PC cord will allow.

I still believe there is a design fault as it should not be this hard. I owned the two box Xono and that was quiet wherever you placed it, even on top of each other.

I am sure it is sounding better as well now - not sure if that is my mind playing short term tricks.

Cheers

I need myself to go back and compare the XP25 to the TW Phono. The change in the shimmer of the highs is as if I have a new phono stage. All I can say is I am addicted to the Allaerts Pass combo. Just musical.

I need to try the Titan I a bit but no desire to at this time.

I also wonder if we played with product placement with other equipment what results we would get. P

Very happy you got it sorted.

Just to f/u on the hum, I am assuming you are using well shielded interconnects from the cart to the phonostage, especially with a LOMC. Has anyone heard the Alephono? I am using it now and am happy, but I'm curious if the is significant room for improvement. Anyone upgrade from there?

Hi Jeff

Nordost Valhalla and Tyr on two tables and stk shielded tonearm cables on the other two. I have had probably 20 phono stages in and out over the past 6-7 years ( have not bought em all) and the XP-25 is the only one that had audible hum issues that were not easily fixed. Seems it does not like transformers.

I have not heard the Alephonobut owned the Xono for 5 years and the XP-25 is comfortable better - but more expensive

Have you considered getting your VK-5 upgraded to the super pak version? It's a pretty nice and cost effective upgrade...

After my dealer has let me play with the XP-25 for over 2 months now, it's not going back. The longer I have had it, the more I have appreciated it's subtleties that were not quite apparent in the beginning

The XP-25 really is a wonderful phono stage. This thing took a while to get dialed in - placement and positioning mostly. Once I resolved that, I was hearing the XP-25 do its suff.

It plays music beautifully, is very flexible in its gain and loading, very quiet and provides just the right amount of attack with the leading edge of instruments where my tube phono is just a little softer.

well worth checking out if you have the chance. I don't think you will be disappointed

I have decided that the only way to enjoy my analogue front end I'd to have clean records ready to play. I have ordered the cleaner. Gives me more time and I will end up buying more LPs.
