R.I.P.....Amar Bose passed away.

Whether or not you liked and appreciated Bose products, The man and his company did more to deliver quality sound to the "masses"
than any other brand you can name. I suspect everyone here has owned and listened to Bose speakers in one form or another.

A number of us (me included) owned Bose 901's at some point in our audio journeys. Most of us have owned automobiles
featuring Bose sound systems, I own a Bose Acoustic Wave system for portable use and it sounds infinitely better than
any "boom box" ever made. Each of us has benefitted in some way from the genius of Amar Bose.

The man made zillions of dollars from his designs, granted, but in the end, he gave the majority of his company to MIT to further acoustic research.

In my book, the man and his company are OK!

His legacy will live forever. Rest in Peace Amar Bose.

Despite all the audiophile snickering, Amar Bose deserves kudos as a visionary who elevated the quality of consumer grade hi-fi, and sticking to his values as an engineer, teacher, and human. I bet most folks didn't know he endowed M.I.T. with the majority of his shares of Bose stock.

Back in the 70's, before I earned my "audiophile" status, I convinced my Dad to buy some Bose bookshelf speakers. He, and my Mom, thought their "reflected" sound was the cats meow. He passed away many years ago, but my Mom still has them in her system. I had to replace the surrounds a few years ago, but after 40+ years, those paper cones are still going strong! I've offered to replace them with something better, but she's perfectly content with how they sound.

Jerome.......My comment wasn't meant as a slight on Amar Bose. No doubt he was an audio pioneer, but what made him a billionaire was his ability to successfully market those ideas to consumers.

When my brother came back from Vietnam in 1972' one of the first things he did was to buy 901's. I was still in high school at the time but to me they were the best speakers I had ever heard (up to then). Ah, the memories.

I never owned any Bose speakers, but had heard plenty of them over the years including the 301's, 501's, 601's and 901's. I never had any issues with their sound or designs, though many others did. Regardless of how anyone felt towards Dr. Bose' designs, he was one of a kind and definitely thought outside the box.

My very first pair of speakers were Bose 301's. They started me on my journey as a hifi hobbyist and later as an audiophile.

Ahh! the 501 was the speaker my uncle had.
